What is pbu in football?

PBU stands for Passes Broken Up in football. It is a defensive statistic that measures the number of times a defensive player successfully prevents a pass completion by either deflecting the ball, tipping it away, or otherwise disrupting the intended receiver's ability to catch the ball. PBU's are an important part of a defensive player's performance evaluation as they demonstrate the player's ability to disrupt the opposing team's passing game and prevent big plays down the field. Defensive backs and linebackers are typically the players who are most frequently credited with PBUs.
